AUBN, Alabama – Johnny Bloom (Plant City, FL) of Auburn earned the highest honor in all of college basketball as Sports News National College Player of the Year on Wednesday for the 2024-25 season.
Bloom has led the Tigers to No. 1 in the school record for eight consecutive weeks, 16 quad wins, the 2024 Maui Invitational Crown and the program’s 5th Southeastern Conference title (regular season or tournament) over the past eight seasons. He finished the regular season, averaging 18.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per 10.6 games, with 17 double-double performances.
The senior graduate big man was also one of two unanimous choices for the first team across the nation in the publication next to Duke’s Cooper Flag. He will be the first player in the program history to be named National Player of the Year by any news organization.
The SEC Player of the Year and two All-SEC first-team selections have recently been recognized by NCAA Andy Katz and Jon Rothstein as co-player of the Year by today’s Jon Rothstein by 68 networks and the Player of the Year field.
