Buffalo, NY — Josh Allen may have sought a new deal that certainly broke all the records for an NFL contract, taking off his first MVP season and the best years of his career.
But doing so was not the most important thing for the Buffalo Bills quarterback.
Allen made history by receiving more deposits ($250 million) than any other player on the $350 million extension over the last six years. However, the average annual value of the deal is $55 million, but it is tied to the second-highest person in the NFL, paying $5 million a year over Dallas Prescott’s contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
“From my point of view, it didn’t look like I was taking much less,” Allen said Wednesday three days after agreeing to a deal with the Bulls. “But the way I get it, when you start to get these pretty big numbers across the league – it’s weird to say this – but what’s more that I can’t do now in my life? It’s not that crazy for me.

Allen shared that he instructed his agent, Patrick Collins, not to negotiate a deal that would have a significant impact on Buffalo’s salary cap.
“I told the agent because I was never going to kill you at all the chance I could,” Allen said. “I said, “If it affects the cap, find a way to not do it.”
“Both sides tried to move and change things, and it was a rather gentle negotiation.
The bill has been active in the early parts of free agency, with wide receiver Khalil Shaquille, linebacker Terrell Bernard and defensive side Greglethaw signing expansions and agreeing to a deal with free agents, including wide receiver Joshua Palmer and defensive end Joey Bosa.
Allen said his focus is on achieving that first Super Bowl title by expanding and adding this offseason.
“That’s really the only thing I’m thinking about, I’m just trying to keep getting better and find a way to bring the Lombardi trophy to Western New York,” he said. “So (General Manager Brandon) Bean is like what he’s doing in his current free agency period, the people he brings, the people he thinks he can help us push that hump up.”
