On Monday, wide receiver Chris Godwin agreed to the terms of his new three-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bucs previously changed the contract structure of Godwin’s contracts, giving them more time to negotiate contracts. The two sides became mutual agreements, keeping Tampa Bay slot weapons in the long term.
In his eighth NFL season with the Bucs, Chris Godwin’s Prolific 2024 campaign ended prematurely when he suffered a dislocated ankle in the seventh week of the Baltimore Ravens. At the time of a serious injury at the end of the season, Godwin led the NFL at reception (50), receiving first downs (30) and yards (324) after catching, tied first with touchdowns (5), second in catch rate (81.1%-min. 25 targets), and yards. Slot phenoms were at a pace of nearly 1,400 yards in 2024, which became a career-high. In the role of the primary slot, Godwin set the tone and utilized free releases and two-way GO.
Originally picking a third draft pick from Pennsylvania in 2017, Godwin ranks second in franchise history in most reception categories, including reception (579), reception yards (7,266), and touchdown catch (39). The only player before him on these respected lists was Mike Evans, and the two formed one of the most feared tandems in the NFL. Godwin’s career average of 5.2 receptions per game is the highest team history among qualifiers.
