The Holy See Press Office issued the following statement Wednesday evening, providing daily medical updates on Pope Francis’ health:
“My Holy Father remained stable today, but there were no episodes of respiratory failure.
“As planned, he will utilize supplemental high-flow oxygenation and non-invasive mechanical ventilation will resume tonight.
“The Holy Father increased his respiratory and active physical therapy. He spent the day in an armchair.
“Given the complexity of the clinical situation, the prognosis remains protected.
“This morning, in my private apartment on the 10th floor, the Holy Father took part in the ritual of the Holy Ashes.
“He then worked in several working activities. In the morning he was also known as Father Gabriel Romanelli, a parish priest of the Holy Family Church in Gaza.
“In the afternoon he alternated between rest and work.”
Pope Francis has been undergoing treatment for bilateral pneumonia at Gemeri Hospital in Rome since being admitted to the hospital on February 14th.
