The Holy See Press Office published the following medical updates on Pope Francis’ health on Tuesday evening: The Pope is being treated for bilateral pneumonia at Gemeri Hospital in Rome.
“The clinical state of the holy father remained stable today. He had no episodes of respiratory failure or bronchospasm.
“The pope didn’t run a fever, so he was vigilant, cooperated with the treatment and oriented.
“This morning he moved to high-flow oxygen therapy and received respiratory physiotherapy.
“As planned, he will resume non-invasive mechanical ventilation until tomorrow morning, as scheduled. The prognosis will remain protected.
“During the day he alternated between spending time in prayer and rest, and this morning he received the Eucharist.”
Pope Francis’ overall clinical status remains stable, including heart, kidneys and blood levels.
The frequency of bronchospasm is not unexpected in the context of pneumonia that affects the pope. However, his health remains complicated.
