Jerrod Mayo had one word to describe Drake Maye’s performance during training camp.
Vikings QB McCarthy will need surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee, a major setback for his rookie progress.
There doesn’t appear to be much movement toward a new contract for Matthew Judon, and according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, the Patriots are open to listening to trade offers for him.
“Well, with Judon, the Patriots are at least listening to trade offers,” Darlington said during a recent appearance on NFL Live. “They’re pitching him lightly, but they’ve made it very clear to the NFL that if they want to trade for him, we’re open to listening.”
Judon is in the final year of his contract with the Patriots, with a base salary of $6.5 million this season.
His total cap hit, including salary and bonuses, is $14,675,848, according to Spotrac. Judon, a selection to four of the last five Pro Bowls, is 14th at his position in average annual contract value.
TJ Watt, Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa are all over the salary cap of $25 million this season, with base salaries fluctuating depending on the terms of their contracts.
Judon said at the start of training camp that he doesn’t believe his current contract represents his value.
Judon missed all but four games last season with a season-ending biceps injury. He played in all 17 games over the past two years with the Patriots, averaging 60 tackles and 13.5 sacks over those two seasons. Judon turns 32 on Thursday.
Darlington said the Patriots have no plans to trade Judon despite the lack of progress on a new contract.
“It’s also fair to say there’s very little interest on their part to make any kind of deal happen,” Darlington said. “The Patriots haven’t made any increase or re-offer to Judon since their initial offer before training camp, so I don’t necessarily think there’s any urgency to bring him back to practice.”
Judon has expressed dissatisfaction with his contract but acknowledged that he signed it and that he still has this season remaining on his contract.
He doesn’t seem to want to play with the car, but he might have to.
“To me, there’s nothing imminent other than a team stepping up and making a trade offer,” Darlington said. “I feel like there’s a good chance he’s going to have to play this season on his $6.5 million contract.”
