The USC Trojans replaced the South Carolina gamecock as one seed in the latest Top 16 obvious and latest Top 16 series ahead of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, as announced on ESPN on Thursday.
The UCLA Bruins are skating to second place with the Texas Longhorns in third place, followed by USC, with the Notre Dame Fighting Irishman in fourth.
The release reflects that the field, as determined by the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, is based on the game played until February 26th.

South Carolina has slid three spots since its first release on February 16th, after being routed to UConn at home later that day. The Gamecocks and Longhorns appear to be heading towards a split in the SEC regular season crown, and a coin flip may be needed to determine who is getting the number one seed in the conference tournament.
USC has only dropped one game since late November (February 2nd in Iowa), and recently handed the then-top ranked UCLA the only loss of the season. The rematch with Crosstown rivals will be in Westwood on Saturday.
The current No. 2 seeds are South Carolina, UCONN, LSU and NC. No. 3 is TCU, UNC, Duke, Tennessee. Number four are Oklahoma, Kentucky, Kansas and Ohio. This has led to six top 16 SEC teams being assigned to Birmingham 4, with three (South Carolina, Tennessee and Oklahoma) assigned to one region.
Since its first release on February 16th, the new team has not participated in the contest, but the order of the 16 has changed since. In recent developments, Tennessee jumped from No. 4 seed to the three line, while Kansas and Ohio fell to the overall spots in No. 15 and No. 16, putting them in danger of losing their hosting status.
Perhaps even the topline is expected to see a wealth of movement between the choices and choices on Sunday, March 16th. Power Conference concludes this week’s regular season play before holding a conference tournament in the first week of March.
The women’s tournament will host the region at two sites: Birmingham, Alabama and Spokane, Washington. Tampa, Florida, hosts the Final Four.
