Taiwan dispatched the Navy, Army and Air Force on Wednesday after China launched its implementation movement zone just 40 nautical miles from Taiwan’s coast.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense says it only noticed the movement when local Taiwanese ships were warned to leave the area after the training began. The drill is located off the coast of Kaohsiung’s Taiwan Port City. Taiwanese officials say China “blatantly violated international norms” by unilaterally designating the drill zone.
“The move not only poses a high risk to the safety of international flights and ship voyages at sea, but also a blatant provocation to the safety and stability of the region,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
As part of the drill, Taiwan says 32 Chinese military aircraft have been detected, working together with warships. Chinese officials have so far not acknowledged Taiwan’s complaints.

Drills around Taiwan are just the latest examples of China’s attack this month. The country’s military also began live-action training off the coast of Vietnam and between New Zealand and Australia, diverting commercial flights between the two countries.
Wednesday’s exercise came days after Wang Hunt, the fourth-ranked leader of the Chinese Communist Party, sought a greater “unification” effort. China has long argued that Taiwan is a rebel force belonging to Beijing.

Chinese training comes one day after the Taiwanese Coast Guard (CGA) detained the Chinese crew of a Togo-registered ship on Tuesday, which is suspected of cutting the submarine optical cable connecting Taiwan with the Peng islands.
According to the CGA, Hong Tai 168 was lodging within about 925 meters of cable from 7pm local time on February 22nd. A Coast Guard ship was sent to the ship at 2:30am on Tuesday, and the ship will leave the area, according to Taiwanese state-owned media.
Coast Guard officials confirmed that Taiwan Peng No. 3’s submarine cable had been cut off at 3am on Tuesday and began an effort to detain the ship’s Chinese crew. All eight crew members were Chinese nationals, according to the Coast Guard.
