After the eventful 2023-24 season when he won the NBA title and won a gold medal as a member of Team USA, Boston Celtics star Jason Tatum feels like he doesn’t get the credibility he deserves It’s there.
Speaking to Michael Lee of the Washington Post, Tatum said “no” when asked if he felt he was grateful for his achievements at this point in his career.
“You take your name and face from all my achievements and say, ‘This is what this player accomplished at age 26’, people talk a lot differently about (me) that you just like you. ” explained Tatum.
Tatum also talked about how every time LeBron James retires, he doesn’t necessarily want to be inserted into the NBA’s next face debate, as it’s completely subjective.
“I really don’t want to insert myself into something that can be discussed. Did he win the championship? Yes. Did he win the gold medal? Yes. He was always part of the winning season? ? What you know is like nba.
Last summer was, in many ways, the best achievement of Tatum’s already stellar career. He helped the Celtics win the NBA-Record 18 Championship in franchise history and win the Dallas Mavericks in the dominant final.
Despite the success of the Celtics team, Tatum did not win the Finals MVP. The distinction went to Jalen Brown, but was 7-4 votes from the media.
Brown said in an on-court interview after a decisive game five that he shared honor with Tatum.
After the final, Tatum joined Team USA for the Olympics in Paris. His role on the team was the subject of intense debate as he did not play in two tournament games with Serbia. Serbians:
“The most difficult part of this job is that you’re sitting at least some of the world class people, some of the best players on the planet. On the one hand, it doesn’t make any sense at all. On the other hand, I think, “These people.” You will need to ask to win one game and move on to the next game.
Tatum played a total of 71 minutes at four Olympics. His high water mark opposed Puerto Rico in the group phase where he scored 10 points.
The Celtics had no concerns about the summer in Tatum. Because he paid him with a five-year, $313.9 million contract extension, the richest deal in NBA history.
Since being selected as the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Tatum has been one of the league’s most reliable stars. He has won the All-Star team for six years in a row, finishing the top six in MVP voting over the past three years, earning at least 25 points and seven rebounds per game for the fifth consecutive season.
The Celtics have reached the Eastern Conference Finals six times in Tatum’s first seven seasons, including this season. They currently have the third-best NBA record 41-16.
