Several teams reportedly target Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in the trade market.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders are all expressing their desire to acquire Stafford.
Breer also noted that “other people are showing interest.”
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the giants “studied about Stafford availability” before the November 5 trade deadline during the 2024 season.
The Rams are set to win a $49.7 million cap hit in 2025 and a $53.7 million cap hit for the 2026 season (via Spotrac), so they’re veteran passerby to avoid paying the rest of the contract You can choose to proceed from.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed on February 16 that Los Angeles has a “strong interest” in keeping Stafford, but the current terms of his contract are “unacceptable.” “He’s going to need a new deal,” he explained.
The 37-year-old made adjustments prior to the 2024 season, which included a guaranteed salary of $23.5 million, so a new contract agreement with the Rams isn’t entirely an issue.
If both parties are unable to find common ground again, a change in scenery could occur before the 2025 season begins.
Stafford has been removed for a year from his final Pro Bowl appearance in 2023, leaving him away from an efficient 2024 campaign for the Rams, leading him to a playoff appearance in the divisional round.
With 16 starts, he completed 65.8% of the throws with 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions. Stafford also scored 533 yards and four scores without being selected in two playoff games.
The Steelers could be seen as an upgrade over the 2024 Starters Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. The Giants, Browns and Raiders appear to be interested in Stafford, trying to end their respective playoff droughts.
If the Rams can’t agree to a new deal with the quarterback, it shouldn’t be difficult for them to be willing to find a trading partner.
