INDIANAPOLIS – The city’s newest luxury hotel opened Monday in downtown Indianapolis, breathing new life into a once-abandoned building.
Intercontinental Indianapolis is part of IHG Hotel and Resort’s portfolio of luxury and lifestyles.
The 11-storey hotel is located in the 99-year-old Illinois building on North Illinois Street and West Market Street, and is in the top 10 of the once abandoned and most at-risk Indiana landmarks.
“It’s been a long time,” said Zachary Lockett, director of sales and marketing at the hotel. “We can really see the vision of this building come back to life in almost 100 years.”
The locally owned by Keystone Group, the building was originally used for “high-end office spaces.” Following the $110 million renovation, Rocket said the hotel boasts of luxury hotel rooms (170), including 177 suites and a 1,500-square-foot penthouse suite on the top floor.
“All the ceiling work (lobby) you can see here is hand-drawn,” Rockett said. “The elevators are 100 years old, so they have been remodeled and modernized, and then you will travel time to the modern, luxurious second floor.”

The hotel also features a restaurant in the lobby, a rooftop bar with views of the monument circle and meeting space.
“It’s very much to see everything we’ve talked about and see everything we’re dreaming about for this building and it’s a celebration of the hospitality of the circle and Hoosiers, and it’s very much to see everything come to life. I’m humble,” he said.

And guests cannot miss out on locally inspired art throughout the building.
“We’ve been working hard to get into the world,” said Alexandra Miller, Communications Director for Keystone Group.
“It’s exciting, humble and energetic,” Rockett said. “And we’re ready to serve.”
