Elon Musk continues his public association with Germany’s far-right Alternatives German Land (AFD) party, and following the election results in last night in Germany, he celebrated party co-chair Alice Weidel on X. I sent a post.
In the post, Musk cited Hungarian President Victor Orban.
“The Germans voted for a huge number of changes. I want to celebrate @Alice_Weidel doubled the vote for @AFD. Good luck and God bless Germany!” Orban wrote .
In response, Musk said: At this growth rate, @AFD will be the majority party by the next election. ”
Two German Conservative parties, the Christian Democrats (CDU), and its sister group, the Christian Social Union (CSU), won the election last night by about 30% of the vote. The AFD finished second with a 20% vote record.
The Center-Left Social Democrats (SDP) have been the worst after 13.3% of Greens, followed by 8.6%, and 16% of the votes in the liberal Liberal Democrats (FDP). 4.9%, with the left-wing populist BSW party at 4.7% and the others at 3.9%.
CDU/CSU leader Friedrich Merz will become Germany’s next prime minister.
Musk has been a supporter of the AFD voices ever since he jumped into politics. In December, he posted, “Only the AFD can save Germany.”
Last night’s figures were the best results for AFD, but in Germany it’s not a surprise. The party has made stable election profits over the past few years, sparking alarms both within Germany and internationally.
The party is united by opposition to immigration and anti-Islamic sentiment, and is classified by German judiciary as a “suspicious extremist party.” The party also has great roots in the neo-Nazi movement, with multiple card-carrying members struggling with legal notices and fines to use and promote national socialist slogans.
In his first speech after the election, Meltz expressed his desire to keep his country away from the influence of the US
“My absolute priority is to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible, so in stages we can truly achieve independence from America,” he said.
“I wouldn’t have thought I had to say something like this on TV, but after Donald Trump’s remarks last week… it’s clear that this government doesn’t care much about the fate of Europe.” said Merz.
