“In the first half, their zone and length bothered us.” Beller head coach Junior Batista said. “We put pressure on the second half. We’ve been in foul trouble lately, but tonight they’ve thrown the ball a few times and we’ve got to fit our tastes I got the game.
No. 7 Big Reds (12-11) followed No. 9 Huskies 32-23 at the 5:12 mark in the third quarter.
Athletic 6-1 sophomore Pettigrew netted 13 of his 37 points in the third quarter that led the game. 3:10 on the clock. Pettigrew had eight others as Beller headed into the fourth quarter with a 40-38 edge.
“They started playing basketball style and speeded up us up.” Harrison Central head coach Aaron Forty confirmed. “It really worked. The game became a track meet, but that’s not what kind of team we are. We did a good job playing style in two-half. Then we ran away from it.”
Senior Caleb Jewel scored 10 of the 18 points on the final panel, while Pettigrew scored another nine. Jewell began the fourth quarter with a seven straight roll, with the Big Reds moving up to 47-40, with Harrison Central (7-16) moving the stretch further away from the five.
“These two get a lot of points all year round. Caleb is a really good shooter when we can open him, and Lecon is a great athlete and finisher.” Batista pointed out.
Pettigrew and Jewell, who also scored 11 rebounds, combined with 55 of Beller’s 61 points, but Batista said the other players played a major role in the victory.

Bellaire is currently moving forward to face third seed Galaway at Cambridge High School in the East 1 semi-finals on Wednesday.
