LOS ANGELES – The Rams have given quarterback Matthew Stafford’s agent permission to speak to other teams about his market value on Saturday by an ESPN source.
The news was first reported by the NFL Network. The two are discussing the reworked contract, sources told ESPN.
After the Rams won the Super Bowl LVI, the team and Stafford agreed to an extension in March 2022. Stafford had two seasons left in the extension, with $4 million guaranteed in 2025, not in 2026.

In their final offseason, Stafford and the Rams agreed to rework the contract, an adjustment that Stafford had made until the day he reported to training camp. Rams coach Sean McVay said he hopes the team and Stafford, 37, will clarify the situation “late” after the season.
“I’m proud of my whole series of jobs and I’m really proud of the way he played,” McVay said at a season-ending press conference. “I think the coolest thing you can say about Matthew is that he shines the brightest at his biggest stage. He was Rum so he was the 7 playoff games he’s playing. If you look, he gives you a chance every time you step out. On the field, and for that, I certainly appreciate it.”
After spending their first 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, the Rams traded for Stafford before the 2021 season, then won the Super Bowl together in the first bowl.
In 16 games last season, Stafford completed 65.8% of his passes for 3,762 yards, with 20 touchdowns and eight intercepts.
