Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at illegally ending federal benefits to illegal people in the country.
The White House said the order was trying to end “all taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens,” but it was not clear which benefits would be eligible. People in the country generally do not qualify except for emergency medical care. Children are entitled to free K-12 public education regardless of their status as immigrants under the 1982 Supreme Court decision.
The order points out that the 1996 welfare overhaul illegally denys most public interest to people in the country, but states that the law is gradually undermining. “In particular, over the past four years, previous administrations have repeatedly weakened their legislative goals, resulting in inappropriate spending of important taxpayer resources.”
Trump’s words appear to be directed towards the widespread use of former President Joe Biden’s parole authorities. Allows to temporarily allow one CBP used at the border crossing with Mexico and people including over 900,000 people, including over half a million Cubans, Haitians and online appointment apps called Nicaraguans And then a Venezuelan flew to the US at his own expense along with a financial sponsor. Trump quickly ended both programs.
Biden has also given parole to nearly 300,000 people from Ukraine and Afghanistan.
People who have been parole for at least one year are considered “unqualified non-citizens” and are eligible for income-based benefits, but only after five years. It includes Medicaid and children’s health insurance programs, according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Some states have reduced five-year waits.
While Trump’s orders appear to have other targets, some are already the subject of previous orders and the Justice Department’s lawsuits. It directs all departments and agencies to identify federal benefit expenditures that are inconsistent with the Welfare Act of 1996. It also seeks to ensure that state and local governments are not using federal funds for policies that support “sanctuary” policies or encourage illegal immigration.
Trump signed 10 executive orders on immigration on his first day in office. They included automatic citizenship for people born in the United States and ending asylum at the southern border. The birthright citizenship order has been temporarily suspended in court.
In another order on Wednesday, Trump directed the heads of all agencies to review all regulations and worked with Elon Musk’s government efficiency members. The order said regulations that contradict the administration’s policies will be withdrawn or amended.
The purpose of this lawsuit is to strengthen the fundamental government’s destructive efforts of masks, which faces many court challenges regarding its legality.
Trump has also targeted many advisory committees and agencies for exclusion, part of his broader campaign to assert control over independent enforcement agencies.
Among the institutions to be dissolved are the US Institute of Peace, which promotes conflict resolution around the world. Inter-American Foundation funds community development programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. The American African Development Foundation invests in community development efforts in Africa.
