BOSTON – The general manager of the US team at the 4 Nations Face Off Hockey Tournament said he welcomes a visit to the championship game between the US and Canada from President Donald Trump on Thursday night.
Bill Guerin, who played 18 years with eight teams in the NHL for 18 years, told Fox News that Trump’s presence would boost the competition between the power of hockey in North America. He believes the story of Trump’s tariff threat and increased strength in matchups filled with the reserve round fights, making Canada the 51st US state.

“If President Trump was in attendance, we would love it,” Guerin said in an interview broadcast Monday. “We have a room full of American players, coaches and staff who are proud of us, listen.
The tournament marks his return to international play for Top Hockey Stage after leaving the past two Olympics.
The US defeated Canada 3-1 on Saturday in a match that began with three fights in the first nine seconds. The quality of play, emotional strength and geopolitical background were compared to the Americans’ “Miracle on Ice” victory over the Soviet Union at the Lake’s calm Olympics in 1980.
“I think there was a bit of political talent, and that’s when we’re here,” Guerin said. “If you made it better you’re in trouble. But I think the players used it as inspiration.”
Since taking office on January 20th, Trump has been participating in the Super Bowl and NASCAR’s Daytona 500.
