Kentwood, Michigan – A brand new business is taking over the former TGIF location at Woodland Mall.
The old TGIF building will win a complete makeover and will turn into K9 Resort, a “luxury pet hotel” scheduled to open this summer.
The old TGI Friday building will be remodeled rather than demolished.
This will be the location of K9 Resorts’ first franchise in Michigan. Megan and Mark Ibaska are local franchisees who began considering opening a K-9 resort in the area in late 2023.
Real Estate Advisor Thomas Vledeveld said his client wanted a location near the airport for people flying out of Grand Rapids.
“We wanted to have easy access to the airport, so we also had easy access to the places where people were driving through people’s homes,” Vreddeveld said.
“We had to be in the retail area within 10-15 minutes of the airport,” added co-owner Mark Ibaska. “It’s not better than being on the corner of 28th Avenue and the Beltline.”

According to the K9 Resorts website, the pet hotel offers both dog boarding and day care.
