College student Jaren Barajas took a new claim to gain fame after beating Milwaukee Bucks star Damien Lillard in a shooting contest, winning $100,000 in the process.
Barajas and Lillard were competing in the Mrbeast 100,000 Challenge during Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game, filming what the 18-year-old later called the “life-changing” bucket.
In the matchup, Barajas had to drain one 3-pointer from the half-court logo before Lillard made the three. The veteran point guard made two successful attempts when Barajas ran out of buzzer beaters in his final effort, triggering a frenzy reaction from fans inside the Chase Center.
Among those witnessing the moment was Shaquille O’Neill, holding Barajas as he jumped up and down, and Steph Curry, laughing in disbelief as he watched from courtside.
According to the Associated Press, “This means the world to me. “Hopefully it will help me pay for my education.”
After making the shot, Barajas was lifted onto the shoulder of the mascot and plunged into a box of cash and showered with a bank note.
“It was dramatic, he made it when the clock was gone,” the nine-time All-Star Lillard said. . “I love that you are part of something that can influence someone else.”
After a challenge hosted by YouTuber Mr. Beast, the NBA has announced that it will donate $50,000 to Lillard’s Scholarship Fund to Boys and Girls Clubs in Oakland and San Francisco.
