
Colin Reisen of Salem will dribble against Nat Lewis in South Range in Salem on Friday
SALEM – With the boys basketball postseason starting just a week away, the Raiders jumped for a 20-2 lead and never looked back at their 69-40 regular season post. He beats Salem at John A. Cabas Gymnasium on Friday night.
South Range gained a 20-2 advantage in the first five minutes of the game as the Raiders hit 8 3-pointers and 13 in the game in the first half, controlling the rest of the contest with a heated shoot from the boundary I did. .
“I think (13 Three) is probably twice as much as I’ve had in most games this year.” Salem coach Jeff Andres said. “But we put hats on them, they played well, they were deep, they were offensive, they got us.”
“I hope it’s your night if you come out and shoot the ball.” South Range coach Pat Carden said, “We’ve been doing it all night. It looked like we really found a shot of tonight.”
With a victory, South Range, which fell to Division V this winter, improved to 17-4 after reaching the D3 district final last season.
“We went the path (in the tournament) that we thought we could get there in hopes, but we have to play hard every night because we don’t know what’s going to happen.” Calden said. “It’s basketball and the kids have to come out every night and do our job.”
Salem, who will compete in this season’s D4 tournament in setbacks, is currently 6-15.
6-foot-3 senior guard Lu Krowan torched the net with a game-high 29 points, including seven of the Raiders’ 13 trays, with South Range quarter-stop leads of 23-7, 37-25 and 54-32. I’ve won.
Carden held a 33-point advantage (67-34) and cleared the bench at 4:22 leaving South Range.
“We came to think Luke (Rohan) could shoot it. Andres said. “They shot it really well.”
“Look is like our motor.” Calden said. “We’re going as he goes and when he plays his best basketball, we’re a much better team. He can really shoot it and he’s a great night tonight I took a picture.”
Complementing Rowan’s sharp and sharp performance from long distances was a 13-point guard nae lewis, with Tristan’s toy (two threes) and Graham Heikinen adding 10 points and including Tristan’s toy.
Quaker’s pace was center Evan Jones with 11 points, but teammate Ty Manion added seven points, while Ben Haytan and Colin Reesen added six points.
Despite falling early, Salem came back within 10 points (40-30) with Jones layup, leaving 3:44 in the third quarter.
However, South Range responded impressively by outscoring the rest of the frame, 14-2, 14-2, to lead 54-32 after the third inning.
The Raiders took their biggest lead with 35 points (69-34) and launched the running clock with 3:30 left in the game.
“Our kids fought, got a board and a bucket and another board and a bucket and then put (the red) (the red) there and then ran away from us a bit.” Andres said.
Game Notes
South Range won the Junior Varsity Game at Quaker, 52-47. Jason Volschak and Tommy Valentine led the Raiders with 13 points each. Braydon Van Dine and Cameron Martin paced the Quakers at 12 points, while Jack Andres added 10 markers.
Salem turns around and hosts the Hubbard Eagles in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The JV game starts at 1pm from the varsity to follow. The game was switched to an afternoon contest for the Salem Girls basketball team hosting the Struthers Wildcats in the D4 Sectional Championship Game at 7pm on Saturday.
“They (the Eagles) are high-quality opponents.” Andres of Hubbard said. “They have kids who play hard and they’re going to come here and compete in a similar style to the South Range. But we’re worried about ourselves now. Hopefully, we can lick the wound and go back to fight.
South Range will host the Heartland Christian Lions in Tuesday night’s regular season finale.
