Donald Trump spoke to the Kiel Star again after what appears to be a momentary call from the US president, which the British Prime Minister and his team weren’t expected.
News of the call came on Thursday evening came in a Downing Street statement about a starmeeting with British television producer Mark Burnett, whom Trump has appointed as the UK envoy.
In detail of the pair’s conversation, the No. 10 statement said “we called President Trump to discuss his upcoming visit to the United States.”
It gave no further details, but NO 10 source described the call as “improvised” and unexpected. It was understood that Trump knew there was a meeting, and he asked his assistant to call his cell phone in his room.
The U.S. Embassy in the UK tweeted photos of the moment and used its mobile phone to show priorities at Barnett and dinner tables. The embassy said: “During dinner, @potus called his envoy and handed the phone over to the Prime Minister.”
Speaking to a White House reporter on Friday, Trump said: “He asked for a meeting and I agreed to the meeting.
“There are a lot of good things going on with us, but he asked me to come and I accepted his question.”
In response to further questions about the date, he added: “I’d like to come next week or the next week soon.”
This call, which once again highlighted the often-free approach to diplomacy that Trump and his White House embraced, is considered short, and has given the hope of starmer to visit the US soon for a formal meeting with Trump. I’ve taken it.
Nevertheless, if the warm relations with Trump, who has praised the prime minister, could lead to Britain fleeing further tariffs or other penalties from the often-fake US administration, it would not welcome it. The pair spoke more officially over the phone last month.
Trump appointed Burnett in his slightly vague role in December. The TV producer is responsible for a series of hit US shows, particularly apprenticeships. Burnett also created or produced shows such as Survivor, Shark Tank, and The Voice.
“Mr. Barnett and the Prime Minister agreed to the unique and special nature of British and US relations, the strength of the alliance and the warmth of the connections between the two countries,” the 10 statements said.
“Mr. Barnett recalls her personal connection to the UK and her mother, who worked part-time on Downing Street as a waitress over 30 years ago.
“They are looking forward to working together, highlighting the great potential for even stronger collaborations on trade, technological and cultural issues between the US and the UK.”
