The igloo recalls more than a million coolers sold in the US, Mexico and Canada due to the dangers of the handle that resulted in several fingertip injuries, including several amputations.
The Igloo 90 Qt is currently recalled. According to a Thursday recall notice from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Tow & Tow Rolling Cooler can allow users to pinch their fingertips against the product.
Igloo has received 12 reports of injuries in the United States. This includes cuttings, fractures and tears of the fingertips. There are no known injuries in Canada or Mexico.
Consumers who own coolers are advised to stop using them immediately. And contact Igloo for free replacement handles.
The currently envisaged coolers ranged from $80 to $140 between 2019 and January 2025, and were sold at major retailers such as Costco, Target, Dick and Amazon. In addition to 47,000 people in Canada and 23,000 more in Mexico, about 1.06 million people were purchased in the US.
The affected products can be identified by their model number and description. They were sold in multiple colors, with the word “igloo” printed on the side and manufactured in the US before January 2024.
Consumers can register for the recall online or contact Igloo, Texas-based Katy at 888-943-5182 or IGLOO90QT@SEDGWICK.com to request a handle replacement.
In a statement, Igloo recalls these rolling coolers and said they are offering free replacement handles “with consumer safety as our number one priority.” The company added, “through rigorous testing and aggressive steps, we are constantly improving our products to meet the highest safety standards.”
