After more than 20 years of business, San Francisco’s luxury spas call it quits, citing security concerns.
Berk Williams Spa, the mall’s flagship mall in downtown city centre, said it saw a business decline when larger stores like Bloomingdale and Nordstrom began to leave. The SPA also said its customer base and employees have felt that safety has been declining recently, prompting owners to decide to close in April.
“We hired our own security company to escort guests from the street through an actual vacant mall and make them feel safe,” said Bill Armour, co-owner of Burke Williams. . “We hired security because it broke a few times in the night. We took these steps and tried marketing campaigns. We tried all sorts of different things. It was so piled up against us. .”
The SPA has at least seven other locations across California.
