LAS VEGAS – UNLV senior offensive lineman Ben Christman, who transferred from Kentucky after last season, has passed away, the university announced. He was 21 years old.
Christman was found dead in an off-campus apartment Tuesday morning. The university said there were no other details and the cause of death would be determined by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
UNLV said Christman’s family and team will be notified and counselling services will be provided.
“The hearts of our team are broken to hear that Ben has passed away,” UNLV coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. “Since the day Ben stepped into our campus a month ago, he has made the Rebels a better program.
“Ben was an easy choice for our leadership committee as he had gained the immediate respect, praise and friendship of all of his teammates. Our prayers knew him and his family. Go to everyone. Ben made the world a better place and he missed it.”
Christman began his college career in Ohio as a highly ranked prospect in the 2021 recruitment class. He redshirted that season and played one game in 2022 before transferring to Kentucky. Although Christmann did not play in 2023 due to a knee injury, he appeared on special teams in all 12 games last season and transferred to UNLV.
“It is rare to say that at such a young age it will reduce the pain of suddenly losing a member of our university family. My heart will break for everyone who knows and loves him. UNLV President Keith Whitfield said in a statement.
