Three years before she linked to the death of a journalist covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Danette Colbert faces charges of stealing $100,000 from a hotel room in Las Vegas with cash, jewelry, luxury luggage and casino chips. It is reportedly done. .
Colbert made Bond – he was later said to have turned another man into drugs and stole his $60,000 watch, casino chips and credit cards after he invited her to his hotel room in Las Vegas. Masu.
Neither of these criminal cases nor various other cases against her had any major consequences for Colbert, 48, a resident of the New Orleans community on the outskirts of Slidell. Police are now trying to understand whether 26-year-old TV sports reporter Adan Manzano was fatally taken on drugs after he died in a hotel near New Orleans airport four days before the Super Bowl. .
Police in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner, where the city’s international airport is located, say Manzano’s road had crossed Colbert’s by the beginning of Wednesday. The two met in the downtown area of New Orleans before heading to their hotel room in Manzano, about 13 miles (21km) away at Comfort Suites Airport in Kenner.

A court statement sworn in after Kenner police filed it said Colbert eventually released it. Manzano – a two-year-old daughter and a widow from Mexico – missed a meeting the following day related to his work at Spanish TV channel Telemundo Kansas City. The Eagles at the Super Bowl on Sunday at Caesar Superdome in New Orleans.
Hotel staff checked Manzano and found him dead and called authorities. Investigators established that the credit card he used to check in to the hotel is as missing as his mobile phone.
After identifying Colbert as a woman who saw Manzano and the hotel, police tracked Manzano’s mobile phone within about a mile of a known address. Authorities have obtained permission from a judge to search his home about 40 miles (64km) northeast of Kenner, where he found Manzano’s mobile phone.
They also collected his credit card. The credit card was being used to charge $8.48 at a gas station on the edge of downtown New Orleans after Colbert left his Manzano hotel.
Randy Smith, the sheriff whose jurisdiction includes that area of Slidell, said investigators discovered Xanax along with other drugs in Manzano’s hotel room. Authorities are investigating whether any of these drugs could have been used to neutralize the reporter prior to his death.
“We understand that everyone suspects that the victim has been taken drugs,” said Jerry Kvitanovic, coroner of Jefferson, Louisiana, Jefferson Parish, including Kenner. “But I can’t confirm that (results of the toxicology test conducted at Manzano) and it could take a few weeks.
There were significant differences in the incident, but at least some local officials recall the unrelated and deadly drug and robbery in Metaly, Louisiana, adjacent to Kenner, sending the couple to federal prisons. It generated national headlines.
Kenner police have stopped not accusing Colbert of causing Manzano’s death. Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said Colbert was booked on charges related to theft and credit card fraud after she was arrested outside a wig shop in eastern New Orleans on Thursday.
However, Conley’s agency did not deny that the theory of what happened was described by Kvitanovic. The oath statement laying out the decision to arrest Colbert from the Kenner Police Station hints at a news article documenting allegations of a man being drugged and robbed in Las Vegas.
As the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote in January 2022, police allegedly invited Colbert and another woman to their hotel room. This man was taken medicine, lost consciousness, woke up to find that he was missing cash, flashy luggage, jewelry and casino chips.
Colbert denied the allegations and formed a bond. And once again, he was invited to a man’s hotel room at a casino in Las Vegas with another woman. The man said he was missing his $60,000 watch and $1,500 casino chips, and was awake after being splattered with drugs and died. His credit cards were also missing, and they were being used for fraudulent purchases, the Review Journal reported.
Once again, Colbert made the bond. Police then arrested her for allegedly driving through a Las Vegas school zone at nearly 100 mph, leading to charges of speeding, aggressive driving and lack of insurance or driver’s license. local news outlet KSNV reported.
Las Vegas prosecutors ultimately dismissed theft and drug cases, according to court records first reported by People.com. The school zone speeding case remains unsolved, and Colbert was sought a warrant at his arrest in New Orleans for missing a January 2023 court hearing.
Kenner police said Colbert was on probation in at least four cases in the New Orleans area and suffered from a range of issues, including theft, aggravated battery and credit card fraud.
Manzano, a Mexican native and graduate of Kansas State University, passed away expressed sadness to his loved ones and colleagues. His wife, Ashley Boyd, was killed in a car accident on April 11, 2024 in Topeka, Kansas. The couple’s survivors include a two-year-old daughter.
Telemundo Kansas City’s emotional TV segment on Friday said Manzano was enthusiastically covering the professional sports franchises in its market.
In addition to his work covering the Chiefs, his Facebook page showed him laughing widely while covering the Royals baseball team in Kansas City and its sports Kansas City soccer club.
In August 2023, Toruca, Manzano’s favorite Mexican football league team, played Sports KC in Kansas City. When Toruka won the match 4-1, Manzano wrote on social media, “Yes Sir!!!”
The Telemundo Kansas City segment on Manzano reported that his mantra “don’t be afraid of success.”
In tears, Telemund Kansas City anchor Gustavojaimes concluded the segment by saying: He also lost his father, son and friend. To Adan Manzano’s family and to him, all of our solidarity he embraced wherever he was. ”
