Jesse Eisenberg, who famously portrayed Mark Zuckerberg on The Social Network, is back in the White House and sharing his perspective on several tech billionaires heading into politics with Donald Trump.
The Oscar-nominated actor-director appeared on the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, and the host prompted him with his thoughts on the topic.
“You played Lex Luthor in the Superman movie[2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice]. It’s interesting to see Zuckerberg at the inauguration and he’s in a position of power,” Bill said. Maher said. “You played Lex Luthor as a tech bro. And you also played Mark Zuckerberg of The Social Network fame, so you must have some feelings for what’s going on with the tech bros. What do you do with all that you have?”
Eisenberg said, “I look at it from a very specific point of view: If you’re so rich and powerful, why don’t you just do good for the world? It’s hard to understand the details of what you’re doing.
“You know, I married this amazing activist-like woman, and all she thinks about all day long is, ‘How can I help the people who are most in need?’ The Real Pain star and director continued. “So when you look at these incredibly powerful people, you think, ‘Why don’t you spend your day helping people?’ ”, hurting those who are already hurting and marginalized people? I don’t exactly think about them in politics because I can’t even understand it. “Why aren’t they helping people every day?”
Meta CEO Zuckerberg is one of several tech bros, including Elon Musk. Elon Musk has moved to embrace more conservative administrations in recent years, supporting Donald Trump into a second term and ultimately winning. Zuckerberg has previously been a supporter of more progressive causes.
Earlier this week, Zuckerberg was also one of several top technologists at Trump’s inauguration, including Musk, Jeff Bezos, Sundar Pichai, Tim Cook and Xiu Zhu.
Other guests featured on the latest episode of Real Time were Stephen A. Smith and Councilor Rokanna.
