furniture and lighting
Early to mid-20th century styles and creators spearheaded all furniture and lighting trends, with an emphasis on modern pieces from the Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern eras. Designers like Charles and Ray Eames, Gio Ponti, and George Nakashima were found to be the most popular among 1stDibs shoppers. Meanwhile, Art Deco era rose 10 places year-over-year as a search keyword for chairs and ranked 13th for overall furniture searches. Its growing popularity shows that the luxury, charm, and vibrancy of the Art Deco era are in sync with current tastes for furniture and art that add visual interest to a room and have an interesting background.
art
Virtually all of 1stDibs’ best-selling artists in 2024 are blue-chip creators, including Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso, whose work has proven to be worth the investment. Contemporary and modern styles maintained their top selling positions, but Impressionism has been on the rise recently, moving up two places to third place.
“Until just a decade ago, when the contemporary art market exploded, Impressionist works by the movement’s masters were considered the finest art.150 years after Impressionism’s creation, it has become a powerful collector… and avid art lovers have gathered together. The poor are once again captivated by the brilliance and vibrancy that characterizes this innovative work.” Anthony Brasil Freund, 1stDibs Editorial Director.
