The University of Tennessee, Knoxville was named a Best Online Education Program of 2025 by U.S. News & World Report, announced on January 21st.
UT received high marks in three categories: Best Online Graduate Business Program (Non-MBA), Best Online Graduate Engineering Program, and Best Online Bachelor’s Program.
“These rankings are proof that our efforts to enable learners wherever they are are successful,” said Provost and Executive Vice President John Zomczyk. Top Rankings in Business and Engineering
UT’s Haslam College of Business’ online non-MBA graduate business program ranks 16th among public institutions and 19th nationally. This category includes master’s degrees such as the online master’s degree in supply chain management and the master’s degree in business cybersecurity.
“Our online programs provide the same high-quality education that students expect from in-person programs,” said Amy Cathy, the university’s director of graduate and executive education. “However, our online offering allows students to pursue a postgraduate degree from almost anywhere in the world. We offer graduate programs that allow people from a variety of backgrounds and at different points in their careers to pursue an MBA or other business degree.”
UT’s Tickle College of Engineering’s online graduate engineering program ranks 21st among public institutions and 28th nationally, an increase of 14 places nationally from last year’s rankings. This category includes online master’s degrees in fields such as civil and environmental engineering, engineering management, industrial engineering, and computer science.
“Given the rapid proliferation of online education, being ranked among the top 25 open online engineering programs is a great recognition,” said Matthew Mench, dean of the Tickle College of Engineering and the Wayne T. Davis Dean. . “Our rapid rise in the rankings reflects both our expansion of high-value programs and our strategic decision to develop only the highest quality programs with pedagogies designed specifically for online students. Rankings of bachelor’s programs advance
The university’s online bachelor’s degree program rose 32 spots from last year, ranking it 35th among public universities and 39th nationally.
UT offers nine fully online bachelor’s degrees through Vols Online, including programs in Agriculture, Early Childhood Education, Information Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Business Administration, Nursing (RN to BSN), Political Science, Religious Studies, and Social Work. I am.

Access to degrees
Nearly 1 million Tennesseans have some college credit but no degree. UT offers more than 70 online degree and certificate programs through Vols Online. This program provides online students with a superior higher education experience at UT.
Last year, UT and Arizona State University entered into a groundbreaking partnership to expand access to higher education through digital learning. This initiative aims to engage learners in their educational journey and address the needs of an evolving workforce.
methodology
Now in its 13th year, the U.S. News online program rankings are based on evaluations of approximately 1,780 online degree programs. U.S. News ranked these programs using data from student engagement, peer reviews, faculty qualifications and training, student excellence, and services and technology. Peer ratings were calculated based on survey responses from university deans.
