After years of testing, we’ve found the best water bottle brands on the market. And the winner is…
There are an overwhelming number of water bottles on the market. After years of testing, we have selected the best brands for you.
Here are five of the best water bottle brands on the market.
Did you know that drinking water from plastic bottles can be harmful to your health?
Drinking water from plastic bottles poses many health and environmental risks. Especially when bottles are exposed to heat and sunlight, chemicals like BPA and phthalates can leach into the water, which can disrupt hormones and increase cancer risk. Microplastics in bottled water can have negative effects on your gut health and immune system, and reusing bottles can lead to bacterial contamination.
Environmentally, plastic bottles cause pollution, take up to 1,000 years to decompose, and their production relies heavily on fossil fuels, exacerbating climate change. Despite recycling efforts, most plastic waste ends up in landfills or the ocean, harming marine life and entering the food chain. Choosing reusable stainless steel-free alternatives is a healthier and more sustainable choice.
We’ve been testing the water bottle brands listed below for years and know they’re the best on the market.
1. YETI Rambler Bottle is the most durable bottle that outlasts any water bottle.
maximum durability
I’ve been testing this YETI water bottle for five years now, and its quality and durability are unmatched. This 36 oz capacity costs $50. Gulp! π³ However, there are smaller, more affordable options on the market. Additionally, there are options available to everyone depending on their fluid ounce needs.
For the past five years, my husband has carried this water bottle with him to work and on various hiking trips and outdoor adventures.
Although it was expensive, it was worth it as it still performs great and has only minor signs of use. ππ»
One thing that makes the YETI Rambler design stand out is its stainless steel bottom. All other water bottle brands we tested had coatings that completely covered the bottle, and no matter how durable they were, eventually every bottle would chip or get scratched. Our YETI has virtually no visible scratches or dents on the surface. I have no choice but to give it to YETI, who really thought about everything from design to durability! ππ»
The visual design of the YETI Rambler has changed over the years, but it still features an innovative chugging cap with magnetic lid. This cap provides a splatter-free drinking experience and makes drinking much easier, especially when you fill your water bottle with ice.
Here are my favorite things about the YETI Rambler water bottle:
Cap with easy-grip handle No leaks or sweat Keeps drinks hot or cold for hours Dishwasher safe Easy-to-grip DuraCoat exterior Stainless steel bottom (no coating will chip over time) Magnetic MagDock cap included Extremely durable 5 year warranty
Here’s what I don’t like:
Expensive Larger sizes may require two hands to drink Larger sizes may not be compatible with car cup holders Heaviest bottle of all the bottles tested
Best overall
There’s no denying that the Hydro Flask is one of the most popular water bottle choices for basically everyone. For many consumers, you’re either Team Hydro Flask or Team YETI, but for me, I love Hydro because it’s been with me everywhere. New York Mag agrees that it’s the best choice overall. ππΌ
This bottle also performs at its best, but what first attracted me is its simple and sophisticated design. They recently enhanced the lid design so that it not only provides a wider mouth but also has an integrated chugging cap. π€© Hydro Flask’s handle is wide and comfortable to carry. It is also dishwasher safe, so maintenance is easy. ππΌ
We recommend our Hydro Flask less than the YETI in terms of durability, as it gradually started getting more and more chips and dents as our family’s adventures continued. However, it still performs well when it comes to keeping drinks hot or cold. And like any true Hydro Flask enthusiast, you probably appreciate the added character anyway. π
Here are my favorite things about the Hydro Flask water bottle:
The sleek design is my favorite of all the bottles I’ve tested Dishwasher safe The softest handle makes it the most comfortable to carry No leaks or sweat Keeps water cold all day Variety of lid options Protection Various accessories available including boots Limited lifetime warranty
Here’s what I don’t like:
Expensive Larger size may not fit in some car cup holders Less durable than YETI Wide mouth design allows for more splashes
3. The Ozark Trail Tumbler is a great alternative to the Stanley and boasts better features.
Perfect for road trips
Ozark Trail is a strong competitor to Stanley, and prices are typically less than $15, with some colors available for less than $10. π± Other notable features are that they are lighter in weight and silicone straws are safer for your teeth and easier to drink from. I actually prefer Ozark Trail to Stanley because of this.
The Ozark Trail brand is known for offering products that are eerily similar to other top brands such as YETI and now Stanley. Aesthetically, this tumbler is identical to the popular Stanley tumbler, so you don’t feel like you’ve sacrificed anything. Having owned both brands, I can say this with confidence. ππ»
This insulated water bottle may be cheap, but its great performance doesn’t come cheap. Many people have asked me if it will perform well in the dishwasher, and I continue to be impressed by its excellent performance even after washing it many times in the dishwasher. I left it on my nightstand overnight and the next morning there was still a whole ice cube inside. Overall, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly tumbler, this is a great (and trendy) option.
The Ozark Trail Tumbler’s design easily fits into your car’s cup holder, making it the perfect water bottle to take with you on all your errands. Additionally, it tops our list of best water bottle brands for one-handed drinking, and is certainly useful for road trips.
Considering its incredibly affordable price, trendy design, and superior performance, this is a better choice than the most popular Stanley brand.
Here are my favorite things about the Ozark Trail Tumbler:
Very affordable Travel friendly Easy to drink with one hand Silicone straw (safe for your teeth) Keeps you drinking whether it’s cold or hot Looks like a trendy Stanley Features a fairly matte color Bottom Won’t chip Dishwasher safe (straws too) Leak-safe straw design Fits in car cup holders No leaks or sweat
Here’s what I don’t like:
Storing the straw in a backpack or other travel bag is not a good option unless you remove it.
4. The Owala FreeSip water bottle is gorgeous and one of the most versatile bottles on the market.
maximum versatility
Owala is a brand I bought earlier this year after hearing many of my hip friends and readers rave about it. If you’ve seen Owala before, perhaps the most obvious thing that caught your eye is the gorgeous color combinations you can choose from. Their aesthetics are unparalleled! I’m obsessed with the purple variation of this combination that I chose for my daughter. π (This comment comes from someone who loves neutrals!) π
Another unique feature of the Owala FreeSip water bottle is its unique and innovative push button lid. The lid is designed to be sipped upright using the built-in straw, or tilted back like a traditional water bottle.
The part that locks the lid to prevent leakage also doubles as a handle when not in use. This feature alone makes it a great travel companion. The unique flat sides make it easy for little hands to handle, and it’s also not restrictive as it can be hidden in a traditional sized cup holder. My daughter, who is in elementary school, has been using this water bottle by herself for the past three years without any problems. However, really young children may have a hard time locking it properly, which can lead to leaks.
Normally I shy away from straw lids as they tend to be more hassle than value, but Owala is all about functionality and practicality. The straw is easily removable for easy cleaning and is dishwasher safe. Additionally, the lid itself has a seamless design, so there are no silicone seals or tight gaps, so you don’t have to worry about mold growing.
Here are some of my favorite things about the Owala FreeSip water bottle.
Locking lid Dual-function lid (sip or chug) Easy to keep clean Flat sides for easy grip Lid is seamless and can be unscrewed and replaced Child-friendly design Locking handle makes it easy to carry Easy Affordable Easy to drink in one No leaks or sweat on your hands Fits easily into your car cup holder Overall very versatile Dishwasher safe
Here’s what I don’t like:
May not be suitable for small children who may have difficulty locking the lid properly.
5. Takeya water bottle is proven to be the best kid-friendly water bottle on the market.
Perfect for young children
Screw tops are by far the easiest to open and close of all the best water bottle brands we tested. I’ve heard that teachers prefer children to bring straw-lid water bottles (also made by Takeya) to school, but I tried the Hydro Flask straw-lid bottle for kids and found that I had no problem with leaking backpacks. After some experience, I found Tayeka’s screw-on lid to be the best choice. A better choice for us.
Takeya’s lid seals tightly without any hassle and is easy to open and close. My daughter also got it when she was in kindergarten. Both of my middle school boys have now upgraded to Hydro Flasks, which are much easier for them to handle. Even better, they are easier to clean than straw lids. ππΌ
Not only is this water bottle a favorite in our household, it was also named one of the best water bottles on the market by Healthline and the New York Times. π€©
The ergonomic handle is another big advantage of the Takeya water bottle and has proven to be very durable over the past three years. As an adult, I can comfortably carry it with two fingers in the handle, easily clip it to a keychain or carabiner, and easily pull it out of the side pocket of my backpack. It can also be folded, making it easy to store in a cabinet.
Most Takeya stainless steel water bottles come with a silicone sleeve bottom to protect them from dents and scratches. Also, if your child is thinking of taking a water bottle from this best brand to school, you should choose one as it is less likely to interfere with class and is more likely to be stable without slipping on the desk. This is a great feature. Note that without the bookmark it is much easier to get in and out of the side pockets.
I was incredibly impressed with how our Takeya water bottle withstood minimal dents and scratches after years of daily use. π€―
My favorite points about Takeya water bottles are as follows.
Silicone boot included as standard (easy to remove for cleaning) Rounded stainless steel bottom prevents dents even without silicone boot Lid is easy to unscrew and replace Children -Friendly design Adjustable handles are easy to carry and store – Can be stored in the cabinet – Affordable – Easy to drink with one hand – No leaks or sweat – Easily fits in car cup holder – Dishwasher safe
Here’s what I don’t like:
It doesn’t perform as well as the YETI when it comes to keeping drinks cold in warm weather, but it still performs well overall.
BONUS TIP: If you’re buying a hand-wash only bottle, or prefer to hand-wash your bottle, buy this innovative brush. Nothing else.
I did a lot of research on bottle brushes. No matter which water bottle brand you choose, the Swell S’ip cleaning brush is the best on the market. I then ditched the blue color and replaced it with a wood grain color and I liked it even more.
Long enough to reach any bottle, it’s easy to clean, and the stainless steel handle is durable and can stand on its own. I owned it for over 4 years before replacing it. ππ»
