While firefighters raced to contain two wildfires in Los Angeles, the National Weather Service predicted strong Santa Ana winds would pick up early Tuesday morning and continue until midday Wednesday.
A new small but fast-moving fire has broken out in scrubland on the Santa Clara Riverbed in Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles. The fire, described as an “automatic fire,” was burning near a golf course but had not yet threatened any homes.
Fire officials advised residents in high-risk areas to leave their homes if they feel unsafe without waiting for an official evacuation order.
“It will cost tens of billions of dollars to get Los Angeles back on track,” President Joe Biden said. “We need Congress to step up and provide the funding to accomplish this,” the outgoing president said.
