The conference realignment will forever change the landscape of college football, meaning there will no longer be a Rose Bowl between the Big Ten and Pac-12 champions. Because the latter no longer exists (at least not in a recognizable form). Still, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
The first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff will feature a traditional Rose Bowl matchup. There will also be a rematch of one of the best games of the season, when Oregon defeated Ohio State in a 32-31 thriller on Oct. 12 at Autzen Stadium. That loss cost Ohio State and kept it out of the Big Ten Championship Game. Although they won by default in the first round, many people see this match as a battle between the best teams in the country.
The winner is likely to be the all-time favorite. They are certain to advance to the Cotton Bowl and will face the winner of the Peach Bowl game between Texas and Arizona State in the semifinals.

Ohio State vs. Oregon State: What you need to know
Familiarity Enough: How well-recognized is this game? Now, this is the third time the two programs have met in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State won both of their previous meetings in 1958 and 2010. This is also a rematch of the first CFP Championship Game. The Buckeyes won their last national title in 2014, defeating the Ducks. It will be the 12th time the two have met in total, with Ohio State winning nine of the first 11 and Oregon State winning each of the last two.
Oregon State is the only team remaining undefeated. In modern college football, where the Big Ten and SEC are home to the major programs in the sport, staying undefeated has never been more difficult. That was already clear this season. Oregon State was the only FBS program in the nation to finish the regular season undefeated. The 2024 season marks the first time Oregon State has started 13-0, and its 14-game winning streak dating back to last year’s Fiesta Bowl is the longest in program history. If the Ducks get the job done and win it all, it will be the second undefeated season in program history.
These two teams love to dominate their opponents. Nine of Ohio State’s 11 wins this season have been by at least 21 points. This is the highest number of any team in the country. Which team has the second most? Oregon State has eight. However, when these two teams met in October, it was a one-point difference.
Rose Bowl predictions and picks
His style of play when we first met was no fluke. In fact, you could argue that both offenses put some points on the board. In recent years, it has often been seen that when elite teams play against each other, the scores of the matches tend to be high. That makes sense considering both teams have star players on offense. “The Granddaddy of Them All” promises to be another high-scoring affair. Pick: 55+
