TEXAS — Rep. Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth)’s absence from Congress became a hot topic after a Dallas Express report was published on Friday. Granger, 81, hasn’t voted since July.
The Dallas Morning News (DMN) reported Sunday that Granger’s son said he was “having some dementia issues later this year.”
Brandon Granger also told DMN that the congressman is currently residing at Traditions Senior Living in Fort Worth, Texas. He said that contrary to reports, the mother is not in a memory care facility. Rather, he said, she lives in an independent living facility.
DMN further reported that Kay Granger was able to arrive in Washington in mid-November to attend a celebration celebrating her political career.
All of Kay Granger’s recent votes are listed as “no votes” on the House of Commons website.
Kay Granger is the U.S. Representative for Texas’ 12th Congressional District. Granger’s colleagues selected her to chair the powerful House Appropriations Committee in the 118th Congress in 2022.
Granger, who was first elected in 1996, announced her decision not to seek re-election in 2023.
Spectrum News 1 has reached out to Kay Granger’s office for comment. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
