Several businesses across Bellingham were the victims of attempted break-ins or break-ins in the week leading up to the holidays.
A series of Fairhaven businesses have been targeted over the past week — Stone’s Throw Brewery announced early Sunday morning, Dec. 22, that intruders had tried multiple entry points but were unable to gain entry, but a nearby contractor Wellman & Zack filed a report of a robbery in Fairhaven. These incidents followed a break-in at the consignment boutique Serendipity on Dec. 14 and a break-in at the Fairhaven Runners & Walkers office the same day. day.
Business owners in other areas of Bellingham have also reported recent break-ins. On December 18th, a popular barbershop in Birchwood was attacked. In addition to the barbershop, thousands of dollars worth of tools and cash were also taken from Hair Hut, a salon located behind the barbershop.
Sandwich Odyssey posted on Facebook on Dec. 22 that it discovered the store had been broken into on Saturday night. Sandwich shops in the Lettered Street area were forced to close a day early for the holiday break to deal with the aftermath.
Soi House, a Vietnamese restaurant on West Holly Street, was broken into in the early hours of December 23rd. Bellingham Police Department reports say officers responded after a man set fire to a grill cover near another downtown eatery. The suspect in the reckless arson attack appeared to match the description of the person who forced entry into the Soi House an hour earlier. Found and booked by 11am the same day.
The Bellingham Police Department has not provided further information about the break-in.
Outside city limits, on the night of Dec. 23, security cameras at the Dunk of America marijuana store in Guide Meridian captured a dramatic break-in by a car and four suspects. This case is under the jurisdiction of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
