Dining with Joey Wright
Each week we chop it up with the people responsible for plating the food in the area. Which restaurant should we go to next? Contact Joey Wright at jwright@news-gazette.com.
Roch’s Place in St. Joseph has been serving American cuisine for more than a decade.
And for the past 17 months, we’ve been using it in conjunction with Little Rocks near Royal.
“My eldest son (Roche Cain Jr.) died in a car accident 11 years ago,” owner Roche Cain said. “He and I used to play softball. They called me Roch, and they called him Little Roch. So we called them Royal Little Rochs.”
Little Roch’s is a sports bar, Kane said, and the menu includes salads, burgers and wraps. It also has 10 televisions and is a popular location for broadcasting Illinois State games in the fall and winter.
And a loyal and friendly customer base has contributed to the store’s success in a town of about 400 people.
“Some people go back and forth (between locations),” Roche said. “It’s been a great result. Our food is bringing people from far and wide… I couldn’t be more proud.”
Roche credits the new restaurant’s success since opening to the help of his staff, including his family.
“We have a great staff that really cares,” Cain said. “And understand what our business is and what we’re trying to accomplish. We’ve been very fortunate.”
What is Cain’s favorite menu item?
“Our hamburger is our staple food,” he said. “We have a very popular Frisco Melt, and with so many different Philadelphia cheesesteaks, wraps, and salads, it’s hard to pinpoint one.” “It’s great bar food. ”
