Buccaneers safety Kayvon Merriweather is questionable to return for Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys in Tampa Bay due to an ankle injury. He left the game with a Dallas touchdown late in the second quarter, giving the Cowboys a 20-7 lead over the Bucs.
The Bucs are already paper-thin at safety. Antwon Winfield Jr. remains out with a knee injury, and Jordan Whitehead remains on injured reserve with a pectoral muscle injury. The defense got Mike Edwards back, leaving Christian Idzien as the last remaining player in the secondary.
Losing Meriweather would put more pressure on the Bucs’ struggling secondary, which allowed Cooper Rush to throw for 226 yards and one touchdown in the first half. If Meriweather is unable to return, Edwards and Isien could end up playing every snap on defense in the second half.
