This year, we’ve been blessed (or cursed) with two competing Christmas movies that are basically based on the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. “Lifetime Christmas in the Spotlight” and Hallmark’s “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.”
I decided there was no better way to waste my three precious pre-holiday hours than by watching these movies in quick succession and deciding if both or either were worth my time. did.
Christmas in the spotlight
The film begins with Bowin Sykes, Taylor Swift’s equivalent, working on a new Christmas album, which is also about her failed love life. Sadly, she just went through a bad breakup and her manager “Mila Vu” decided to tell her about it in this heartbreaking exchange.
Mira: “Aren’t you worried about him jingling bells all over town?”
Bowin: “I don’t care. He can decorate the hall with any prancers, dancers, or cows he likes.”
Next, we met Drew “Gonzo” Gonville, the equivalent of Travis. He is a wide receiver on a fictional team with an older brother who is a star quarterback. To see how dirty they played Jason Kelsey in this movie: his photo is of them next to each other.
Gonzo is concerned about his numbers and delays and is worried that his contract will not be renewed. For now, he forgets all about it and attends his niece’s birthday party, giving her tickets to Bowin’s concert to go with him.
I will omit the details of how the two met and how they became interested in each other. Because frankly, I don’t want to relive it. I should point out that Bowyn fans are called “Arrowheads” because her name is “BOWyn”. That’s very smart.
Bowin’s manager is surprised to learn that her friend met Gonzo. She calls Gonzo “the best wide receiver in the world,” who is a “nine-time MVP” and holds the “record for longest receiving yards.” .
So wait a minute. Gonzo has won nine MVP awards, which would make him the greatest player in the history of soccer, but he’s still not quite there — and yet he’s worried he’ll be fired after one poor season. I wonder if it is?
Bowin decides to go on a date with him because he might be able to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.
So the two started dating, and magically Gonzo was playing “the best soccer of his career,” which is crazy to say from another nine-time MVP.
Gonzo has received contract offers from other teams and intends to accept them. The QB’s younger brother blamed Bowin for the outburst. “I’m glad someone recognizes my worth,” Gonzo says, which is also far-fetched considering he’s a nine-time MVP.
They resolve conflicts in 15 minutes of screen time. Bowin performs for a cancer benefit, and the film ends with the two kissing on Christmas Day and the girl yelling “Touchdown!”
Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story
This movie is almost a movie. It was created for Hallmark and NFL concerts and is basically a 90-minute ad for football and the Chiefs. This version is reminiscent of Taylor and Travis’ relationship without being too on the nose.
Here, Alana Higman and her family run Kansas City’s quaint Chiefs memorabilia store. They’re trying to become “Fan of the Year,” which is apparently a contest, and this is where Derrick Taylor comes into the picture. He’s the Chiefs’ “fan engagement director” and all the old men think that means Alana is getting engaged. All of them are very interesting.
They have a cute encounter. As they spend more time together, Alana is invited to the Chiefs’ Christmas party, which she’s really looking forward to. There, she meets Trey Smith, an actual Chiefs guard. He seems to know who Alana is because his family has a “Lucky Chiefs hat.” Wearing it at the stadium means your team will win on Christmas.
Trent Green is also in the movie, mostly so I can post this screenshot without context.
A family loses their magical Christmas hat. Alana thinks that means the family business will go out of business and everyone will hate her. The movie was designed around the idea that Kansas City is such a small town that everyone would know about this memorabilia store and would wear a magic hat and actively try to close it down. I am.
The real magic wasn’t the hat, it was the family. Higmans win ‘Fan of the Year’, Alana and Derrick kiss in midfield before big Christmas game – and Andy Reid looks like he wants to piss them off.
And at the last moment, the world’s creepiest man dressed as Santa gives Alana a magical Christmas hat.
Grandpa cries and realizes it’s the Chiefs hat Santa gave him when he was a child. end.
Which of these movies should you watch?
Neither.
