BOSTON — The death of a beloved mother whose body was found in a luxury Boston apartment last week is being investigated as a homicide, authorities announced Thursday.
The body of 30-year-old Chantel Gillespie was discovered on Thursday, Dec. 12, inside a fifth-floor unit at the Harris South End at 390 Harrison Avenue, Boston police said.
“We have reason to believe that Mr. Gillespie’s death was a homicide,” police said in an updated statement released Thursday morning. “Preliminary information indicates that this was not a random act and the building’s residents or the public are not at risk.”
Investigators said they are still waiting to determine the cause and manner of death from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Gillespie, a mother of three, had just completed her studies for a nursing degree two days before her death, her family told Boston 25 News earlier this week.
Gillespie’s sister said in an interview Wednesday that the children, all under the age of 6, were trying to escape a pattern of domestic violence.
Gillespie immigrated to the United States from Jamaica in 2014 and has worked as a clinical assistant at Boston Children’s Hospital for the past five years. She was scheduled to earn an associate’s degree in nursing from Labret Healthcare University in Milton in the coming weeks.
No arrests have been made in connection with Gillespie’s death.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
A GoFundMe has been set up to support her children.
