Billionaire Elon Musk, a key ally of President Trump, on Wednesday voiced opposition to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s proposed bill to keep the government funded.
Musk attacked the bill on social media, claiming the 1,547-page document was full of “pork.” The bill aims to avoid Friday’s government shutdown and fund the government through March.
“This bill should not be passed,” Musk wrote bluntly about X.
Republican Congressional leaders have defended their plans for a stopgap spending bill, saying it would give President-elect Trump more influence over spending if the issue comes up again in the spring. .

Vivek Ramaswamy, another Trump ally, expressed skepticism about the bill Tuesday night, but did not oppose it outright.
“We are currently reading a 1,547-page bill to fund the government until mid-March. We expect every Congressman and Senator in the United States to do the same,” Ramaswamy wrote to X. Ta.
Trump himself has not been involved in the budget fight, but several Republican lawmakers expressed skepticism about the big funding package earlier this week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave MPs three days to read the bill and set a vote for Friday. He argued that the bill’s large size was due to natural disasters and other events that had to be paid but were outside of the government’s control, rather than the previous omnibus spending plan.

The bill includes $100 billion for disaster relief for Hurricanes Milton and Helen and $8 billion for the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

Republicans currently hold a slim one-seat majority in the House of Representatives, so Johnson will likely have to rely on Democratic votes to pass the bill. To avoid a government shutdown, the bill must pass the Senate by Friday’s deadline.
