Brandin Podzemski’s role may be minimized after the Warriors recently traded for veteran guard Dennis Schroder, but the move could still benefit the second-year NBA guard. .
Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy spoke to local reporters on Monday and asked how the Schroder trade would affect the 21-year-old Podzemski after a slow start to the 2024-25 NBA season. It was done.
“We see this move as being additive and helpful for both him and Steph (Curry),” Dunleavy explained. “Brandin was really, really good last year. I think part of that was having two other handlers by his side, Steph and (Chris Paul). And with this move, Brandin and I think Steph has always been able to be on the court with other handlers, whether it’s the two of them, whether it’s Dennis and Brandin or Dennis and Steph.
“I think this makes a lot of sense and again, I think this is something that will boost and help Brandin, so we’re happy with it from that standpoint as well. ”
As Dunleavy mentioned, Podzemski often shared the backcourt with future Hall of Famers Curry and Paul during his rookie season, averaging 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, including making field goals. He shot 45.4 percent and shot 38.5 percent from 3-point range. Last season, he played in 74 games (28 starts).
This season, Podzemski played in 24 games (8 starts), averaging 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, shooting 37.6 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range. Ta.
If the addition of Schröder can take some of the pressure off Podzemski, it certainly could go a long way in helping him get back to NBA All-Rookie First Team form.
