Tips for baking this easy cutout sugar cookie recipe:
Great sugar cookies need time to cool, so be sure to wait at least 2 hours. This will help it maintain its beautiful shape and prevent it from spreading. Don’t have enough time? If you’re in a hurry, chilling the dough in the freezer for an hour and then leaving it on the countertop for 5 minutes to soften slightly will work just as well. Sugar cookie dough can be frozen! This recipe can be made up to 3 months in advance, stored in freezer bags, and thawed when you want to bake cookies. You can also cover and store baked sugar cookies in the freezer. When ready, remove from the freezer, thaw, and decorate. If you have a nut allergy in your household, omit the almond extract. We love the luxurious bakery flavor that almond extract gives these cookies, but it’s easy to omit them.
Enjoy soft homemade cookies while drinking cold milk.
There’s nothing quite like a soft, chewy sugar cookie. With this recipe you can make cookies like a pro for any holiday or occasion.
Some of my best and most troubling memories are decorating cookies in the kitchen with my kids when I was little. Even now that our kids are teenagers, we still enjoy this activity.
My teammate Emily made these delicious holiday treats. About it she said:
“This is my first time making my own cookie dough for cutouts (I’ve had Pillsbury help me for years) and these are probably the best cookies I’ve ever had. They’re not bland. It’s also sweet enough and the almond extract adds even more flavor so it’s divine. I swapped out the flour for King Arthur 1:1 Gluten Free Flour and it still worked perfectly.
It melts in your mouth while being crispy on the outside and actually holds its cutout shape perfectly (no gingerbread chunks here 😂). I was also shocked at how easy the recipe was…I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy ready-made dough rolls again!”
