Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s children are growing up differently than their parents.
The Deadpool actor, who has four children with his wife, says he wants to give his children “as normal a life as possible” but acknowledges that they were raised in a privileged upbringing. spoke.
“I try not to impose on them the differences between their childhood and my childhood or my wife’s childhood,” Reynolds said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Friday.
“We both grew up very working-class, and I remember when they were young I would say and think, ‘Oh my God, I’m a kid. We never had this kind of gift back then,’ or ‘We never had this luxury of takeout.’
But the 48-year-old “The Proposal” star ultimately came to the conclusion that children shouldn’t have to carry such a burden thanks to their parents’ success.
“We realized it wasn’t really a bag of rocks to carry around,” Reynolds explained of her four children.
“They already have a deep sense of gratitude, an understanding of the world, and a strong sense of empathy.”
The actor, who married Lively in 2012, continued that their children know how to “empathize” with others.
“These are things that I think if kids can empathize with other people and other kids, we’re doing an okay job,” he said. added.
“But, yeah, that’s different. When I was a kid, I would just smoke and leave the house and come back by sunset, and now I can’t imagine that.”
Reynolds also addressed being a working father during an appearance on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” segment on Dec. 9.
He explained that there was a six-year gap between the last two Deadpool movies because a grueling work schedule “swallowed up[his]entire life.”
“I don’t want to be absent, I don’t want to miss work,” Reynolds told Andrew Garfield about balancing work and family time.
“When I look at their faces and miss a game or a sports game or whatever, it just kills me inside.”
Reynolds and Lively, 37, welcomed their first daughter, James, now 9, two years after marrying.
The Gossip Girl alum then gave birth to her second daughter, Ines, in September 2016.
The couple welcomed their third daughter, Betty, in October 2019, followed by their son, Orin, in February 2023.
