On Wednesday, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup quarterfinals with a 108-100 victory, and Hawks forward Trae Young celebrated his impending trip to Vegas with a fitting celebration. He imitates a Sin City-style dice roll and is located directly above the Knicks logo.
It’s an act of incitement, which makes sense for Young, who has admitted to having a “love-hate relationship” with New York fans at Madison Square Garden. But one person who didn’t mind, or at least responded calmly to, the provocation was Knicks guard Jalen Brunson.
“If you don’t want him to do that, you should win the game,” Brunson said of the celebration, per Knicks reporter Ian Begley.
Hey, you have a point. New York went to halftime, but Atlanta regained the lead in the second half, outscoring the Knicks 61-46 in the final two frames. All in all, it was a huge upset against the Knicks, who were initially favored by -350.
Atlanta now advances to the semifinals, where they will face the Milwaukee Bucks on December 14th.
