YouTube TV, now one of the country’s leading cable (or cable-ish) TV providers, is starting to do the same. The service told customers in an email this morning that it would increase prices from $73 per month for its basic plan in the new year to $83 per month on January 13, 2025, after suggesting that would not happen. It only lasted a few days.
“We did not make these decisions lightly, and we recognize the impact this will have on our members,” Google said in an email to subscribers. “We’re committed to delivering features that change the way you watch live TV, including support for unlimited DVR storage, multi-viewing, and YouTube TV’s wide range of content and vast on-demand library of movies and shows. ”
When announcing the price increase, Google cited “increasing content costs and investments in service quality” as reasons. Customers can pause or cancel their subscription in their settings, and current trials and promotions will remain in place, the company said.
The move comes days after Verizon’s promotion on Facebook offered customers $10 a month in savings on YouTube TV. In this case, “the current subscription price of $82.99 per month will apply.” As seen on 9to5Google, the verified TeamYouTube account X (formerly Twitter) responded that it was aware that Verizon was advertising “incorrect pricing for the YouTubeTV Basic Plan.” Indeed the price was wrong. Depending on how you count, that’s 3 days, or about 5 weeks.
