US Google Trends 2024: Top search trends for music, news, movies, and more

In 2024, Google’s Year in Search report reveals what captured the world’s attention online. Top searches included the US election, the latest iPhone releases, blockbuster movies, trending TikTok challenges, style advice, and more. These results reflect topics that have seen a significant increase in interest compared to previous years and provide a snapshot of what captivated internet users around the world in 2024.

Top searches on Google in the US in 2024

News topics such as the US election, The New York Times Connection, and the Yankees were among the most searched terms in the US that year. When broken down further into subcategories, searches for Donald Trump were more common than for Kamala Harris, J.D. Vance, or President Joe Biden. Meanwhile, in the celebrity death category, Toby Keith was the most searched. Keith passed away this year after a long battle with cancer. According to a report in the New York Post, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was the most searched musician globally, but came second in the US after Usher.

Globally, Baby Reindeer became the most searched hit on Netflix and Inside Out 2, which broke several records at the box office, was one of the most searched movies in the US and around the world. Fashion enthusiasts also reconsidered past trends, asking, “Are skinny jeans back in fashion?” It has emerged as the most searched query, reflecting a resurgence among Gen Z.
