On Saturday, Dec. 7, Arizona’s flag was flown at half-mast in honor of Pearl Harbor Memorial Day. National Pearl Harbor Memorial Day is observed on December 7 of each year to honor the 2,403 military and civilian personnel who died in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Nearly 1,178 people were injured and two U.S. Navy battleships were permanently injured. It sank and 188 aircraft were destroyed.
“Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on December 7, Pearl Harbor Memorial Day. proclaimed National Bay Day,” the Arizona state statement said.
This year marks the 83rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
The term half-mast is used for flags flown on land.
