Horacio Pagani worked at Lamborghini in his youth, rising from sweeping floors to chief engineer. But Pagani was exhausted. His career did not progress as quickly as the luxury cars developed by the famous Italian car manufacturer. Originally from Argentina, Pagani moved to Italy as a teenager to work in the automotive industry and decided to build cars himself. With exotic designs and rare supplies, the eponymous handcrafted wonders are revered by the public and other sacred manufacturers.
The first Pagani was launched in 1998, six years after the company was founded near Modena, Italy. The company first introduced the vehicle to the United States in 2011. The third hypercar, Utopia, debuted in July as a roadster and previously as a coupe.
Pagani cars, which are still run by the founder and his two sons, have only been produced in very small quantities, around 400 supercars in 26 years, resulting in a lack of dealers and the automaker. We also work with Bugatti, Ferrari and Lamborghini to ensure we have enough inventory to display. .
Three of the automaker’s handful of dealerships are in California. Pagani of Miami opens in October 2023 and is located on the Prestige Imports campus in North Miami Beach. In addition to hypercars, Pagani furniture and costumes are also on display.
Pagani’s biggest attraction of the year is the motorsports gathering “The Quail.” Monterey (California) One of the luxury events held during Car Week, several Pagani models are displayed each year.
Pagani, which started with just a few cars a year, now produces 50 to 60 vehicles a year, most of which are banned from public roads. It is estimated that around 300 employees are responsible for manufacturing approximately one car per week. Horacio Pagani signs all new cars.
Like other niche and rare car manufacturers, Pagani’s new cars are primarily pre-sold, often to previous purchasers of the car manufacturer. Sales of the Utopia will be limited to 99 closed coupes and 130 roadsters.
Christopher Pagani, the younger of his two sons and the company’s marketing director, explained the approach.
“All components are built in-house,” he says. “This is a handmade car. Robots will never make a car. It feels like we’re back in the Renaissance.”
This is not to say there is no room for innovation. The car is equipped with Pirelli tires, which Pagani calls “cyber tires”, which are equipped with sensors that provide information to the car’s stability control system.
The car’s chassis is a mixture of titanium and carbon fiber, with a clamshell construction with upward-opening doors. Utopia has a sculpted shape and no wings or spoilers. The alloy wheels are 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear.
Its design also features Pagani’s signature side mirrors that protrude from different positions depending on the model and trim. The automaker uses four designs, all giving the appearance of thin floating appendages or the wings of a bird in flight. The mirrored frame has been described as shaped like a teardrop or a beautiful woman’s eye.
Despite its rugged exterior, the Utopia weighs just 2,882 pounds. The Utopia weighs only about 450 pounds less than a Mazda MX-5 Miata. Powered by a V12 engine and 7-speed pure or automated manual transmission, it has a top speed of 347 mph.
Due to its low volume production, Pagani remained Italian-centric for several years. The company first tried to expand in the UK, France and Monaco before entering the US and further increasing its global reputation.
“For some reason, this car is like a dream that my father had since he was a child,” says Christopher Pagani. “Driving a car with our name on it gives us a sense of respect.”
