OLMSTEAD FALLS, Ohio — The biggest shopping day of the year is approaching. After hitting the big box stores on Black Friday, try to do some small shopping on Saturday.
Good Morning Cleveland anchor Mike Brookbank visited Olmsted Falls’ historic shopping district with something for everyone.
Grand Pacific Junction is home to more than 30 unique shops, restaurants, and services, including Ohio Wick House. Owner Stephanie Smith opened her candle shop in 2022. It is known for its unique scent.
“It always warms my heart when I see people come into the store and see the names on the candles, laugh and have a good time,” Smith said.
With inflation still impacting many people’s budgets, Smith is working to make items more affordable.
“I’ve seen the cost of making everything myself, the goods and materials I use, go up significantly. I’ve done everything I can this year to keep prices down for my customers and shoppers. ,” Smith said.
The owners of Renee’s Unique Boutique & More face similar challenges.
“Shipping charges are going up and the prices of certain items are going up,” Renee Banning said.
Bunning’s store sells a variety of items, including clothing and accessories.
Her boutique and Smith’s Candle Shop also sell products from other local vendors.
“I have products in my store from other local small businesses to encourage and support them and also to get their name out there,” Smith said.
Mr Smith and Mr Bunning are looking forward to welcoming shoppers to Small Business Saturday and are expecting a big boost for business.
“Over the years, I have always seen a large turnout for Small Business Saturday. The community knows how important it is for them to come out and support us on the day. I think I understand,” Smith said.
For every $100 spent at a local business, more than half goes back into the local community.
