Lucy Harrison has been instrumental in the rise of the Warren women’s tennis program. As a junior, she reached the District 10 3A singles semifinals and D10 doubles semifinals and was named a District 10 and Region 2 All-Star.
“We are extremely proud of Lucy and excited to see her receive the recognition she deserves.” Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino, whose Dragons finished with a total of 9 wins and 6 losses, said: “She had a great season, winning district championships in both singles and doubles with partner Alanna Garza and reaching the semifinals in both events.”
In the singles quarterfinals at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Harrison defeated Erie High School’s Riley Gloystein 8-5 after losing to Gloystein twice during the regular season. In the semifinals, she lost to eventual 3A champion Hannah Nichols (Fairview) 3-6, 3-6. “Lucy played her best tennis of the season, with almost every match going to deuce.” said Pellegrino.
Gloystein and Nichols were both voted to the Region 2 first team, and Harrison was named to the second team.
“Lucy, in her third year as a starter, is already one of the winningest players in our women’s tennis program.” Pellegrino said, “And we look forward to seeing what she can accomplish in her final season next year.”
In the doubles quarterfinals, Harrison and Garza upset McDowell in the tiebreaker to advance to the semifinals, but ultimately lost to Fairview’s runner-up.
“I’m shocked and honored.” said Harrison, who was also named a D10 All-Star by the Erie Times-News. “Now I feel like all my hard work has paid off. The Warren girls tennis team is the best, most motivated and supportive group at Warren High School. Thomas I feel like you’re my best friend who picks you up and keeps you focused when you need it. My entire team of amazing athletes and I have worked tirelessly to lift each other up every day. I’m so grateful for everything. I look forward to an even bigger and better senior season.”
