Actor and comedian Vir Das made history this week as the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards in New York. From tech billionaire Elon Musk to incoming US president Donald Trump, Das’s monologue spared no one.
Mr. Das used this platform to poke fun at cultural stereotypes, global politics, and industry dynamics, combining biting satire and global observations. Since then, his comments have gone viral.

Das made some of his sharpest comments for tech moguls Elon Musk and Donald Trump. He sarcastically praised American voters by mentioning the possibility of Musk becoming involved in President Trump’s government.
“You chose someone to guide you, to make all your decisions, to be the most powerful person in the world. And I think you chose well. Yes, he’s crazy. I mean, he’s intelligent, he’s successful, he’s a great businessman.” Folks, Elon Musk is a legend. ”

“Technically it’s self-driving, but ultimately I’m in control,” Das quipped of Musk running the government as if it were a Tesla self-driving car. “Keep Elon Musk happy, okay? He’ll buy your platform and turn it into a podcast.”
With a comedic touch, he joked about the consequences of divisive speech. “Please don’t get up on this podium and say things that are divisive, offensive, inflammatory. This is America, and you’re elected. I’m sorry. You’ve been removed,” he said. Ta.
The appearance at the International Emmy Awards was not Das’ first foray onto the world stage. In 2023, he won critical acclaim and an Emmy Award for his Netflix special “Landing.”
