MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis has been ranked among the top 150 best places to live in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News Real Estate ranked cities across the country based on quality of life and value. Memphis received a score of 5.2 for quality of life and 7.1 for value. Overall, Memphis came in at No. 122 on the list, one spot higher than Miami, Florida, and just behind Bakersfield, California. According to U.S. News, Memphis has an overall score of 5.8 out of 10.
“Located on the Mississippi Delta, Memphis is a metropolitan area that blends the energy of city life with the slower rhythms of the rural South.It features a historic district, views of the Mississippi River, and cultural sites such as Elvis Presley and Dr. Martin Luther. Featuring monuments to the legendary King Jr., Deep South culture permeates every corner of Memphis,” wrote Jacqueline Jones of U.S. News & World Report.
Jones also cited Memphis’ “small-town feel,” “close-knit community,” appeal to musicians and central location. Memphis’ religious history was also noted.
“Nonprofits and faith-based organizations also shape the area. Residents take responsibility for the well-being of their neighborhoods, providing a stronger sense of community and a great way for newcomers to build social connections.” said Jones.
U.S. News & World Report ranked Memphis fourth in Tennessee, behind Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga.
At the bottom of the top 150 list was San Juan, Puerto Rico, followed by Naples. Florida State took the top spot with an overall score of 7.1.
