HALLANDALE BEACH – The sound of gunshots led Hallandale Beach police to a luxury condominium on Ocean Drive early Wednesday morning, where they discovered a double homicide.
Hallandale Beach Police said they received a ShotSpotter alert about a shooting near 1800 S. Ocean Drive around 12:30 a.m. When officers arrived at the high-rise building at 1830 S. Ocean Drive, they found the bodies of a man and a woman. Both had been shot. This building was one of three in the complex.
Someone called 911 about the shooting and said they heard multiple gunshots and saw two people lying on a balcony.
The shooting occurred in an upper floor unit. Chopper 4 over the scene spotted investigators coming and going from the scene.
Some people living in the area said they woke up to the sounds of gunfire and police.
“I heard gunshots and then police cars,” said Max Brendlin, who lives across the street from the complex.
He said the disturbance was worrying.
“I heard screaming and it was scary,” Bradlin said.
A man who lives in the building said he was stunned to see all the police when he got home.
“It’s like something crazy happened here, and I don’t even know what exactly it is, but oh, it’s so crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this, ever since I was a kid. I’m here,” he said. “It makes me feel unsafe.”
“We are aware of and deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at our building overnight. We are cooperating fully with authorities in this ongoing investigation. However, authorities believe this is an isolated incident. The safety and security of our residents remains our top priority.” Beach Club Two’s management company, First Service Residential, said: said in a statement.
Police said, “The incident has been determined to be isolated,” and “there is no impact on traffic or public safety in the surrounding area.”
The identities of the man and woman have not been disclosed.
